Happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Mine was chock full of movies. I saw Bring Her Back (creepy AF), the new live-action Lilo & Stitch (adorable AF), and a really cool Taste-A-Long screening of the original Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, complete with chocolate, gummy bears, and a whole mess of candies I can’t remember.
Yesterday morning I saw my son do a perfect (if I may say so) performance as Jetsam, one of Ursula’s two evil eel henchmen in the local drama production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. And last night, just to bookend the day with more Disney, we watched Encanto, which is not only enjoyable but truly beautiful.
So, it was a wide range of films, from the gory to the gorgeous, and I loved every second of it. I also ate a lot of buttered popcorn. And candy. So, there’s that.
And yes, there was lots of cat snuggling in between the films, because God forbid I sit down and have the chair, or my lap, to myself.

On Friday, Next Avenue published my interview with Ralph Macchio about the new Karate Kid: Legends movie. He’s fantastic, super nice, all the things. But the most memorable part of the experience was that my little digital tape recorder, which I use whenever I have a phone interview, ran out of space and stopped recording as the interview was taking place.
And I didn’t discover it until the following morning.
EVERY JOURNALIST’S NIGHTMARE
Thankfully, I only lost my final question, his final answer, and some nice wrap-up chit-chat, none of which was critical. The piece still turned out great, yadda, yadda, but OMG I freaked out when I learned part of the recording was missing.
Takeaway: always always always use a backup recording device during an interview.
I also published my interview with Wax Taber on Friday.
If you haven’t had a chance to read it, please check it out. She went from being a homeless teen to an Emmy Award-winning editor on some pretty major titles. Her story is so inspiring and she’s a really cool person, too.
On Friday I’ll share my interview with Janelle Brown, who has a fantastic new book, What Kind of Paradise, coming out tomorrow.
That’s it for now! Thanks for reading! Wishing you a week full of art and creativity!
