It’s time for your monthly roundup! Here are all the things—music, books, videos—inspired by my August interviews.

To recap, I chatted with author Mary Jones about The Goodbye Process, her incredible collection of short stories; makeup artist Debi Young about her amazing work in television (The Wire, Mare of Easttown, Watchmen) and film (Leave the World Behind, the upcoming Atlantis); director-cinematographer Skye Borgman about her true crime documentaries, including her new three-part series on Laci Peterson for Netflix; and author Karin Slaughter about her latest novel, This is Why We Lied.

Each of them offered up so many incredible tips on writing, researching, filmmaking, and the importance of authenticity in one’s work. It’s a great collection of conversations that I hope you’ll check out.
