If you are a mom (and that includes dog moms and cat moms), have a mom, or just know a great mom, I hope you had a nice Mother’s Day. And if you’re not a fan of said holiday, I hope you had a great Sunday.
I spent my weekend playing board games, watching movies (Blink Twice, The Shining, and Desperately Seeking Susan, all obvious Mother’s Day choices), reading, snuggling with the cats, eating great food, and viewing amazing art. Not a bad way to spend a few days.
Yesterday, my fam and I went to the Norman Rockwell Museum and saw the Anita Kunz: Original Sisters exhibit. It’s so good.
Hundreds of portraits of phenomenal, badass women, including one that I’ve interviewed, one that I’ve reached out to for an interview, and many that I wish I’d had the chance to interview.

One of the best parts was watching moms and dads take their kids around for a scavenger hunt, helping them to find a specific image and explaining who each portrait subject was and why their contributions were important. Little boys and girls learning about badass women. There may be hope for us yet.
Anyway, if you find yourself in Western Massachusetts and are looking for something to do, I highly recommend checking it out.
I hope you had a chance to read my interview with Andre Royo last week.
That one was super fun. He knows how to tell a good story and I’m so grateful he shared a few with us.
Three things I learned as a result of our chat:
Not everything is a success right off the bat. (The Wire is now one of the most critically acclaimed series of all time. It was not as beloved when it first aired.)
Art can heal.
Understanding the business you’re in is just as important as knowing the craft.
On Wednesday, paid subscribers will receive some thoughts that Andre sent to me via email after our interview, along with his recommendations of things to watch, listen to, read, and do.
On Friday, I’ll share my recent interview with husband-and-wife creative pair Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen. We chatted about their many, many projects, including work they’ve done in theater and TV, and their latest film, Brooklyn, Minnesota.
That’s it for now. Wishing you a week full of art and creativity!
